About the founder

Tracy Thompson has spent twenty years figuring out why some footage holds people and some doesn’t.

She reported internationally, told food stories at CNN’s Great Big Story, produced for CNBC and MSNBC, and ran video for Amazon Ads as Head of Video — building a video program across the organization, managing the budget, and hiring the production companies that made the work. She holds two master’s degrees from Columbia Journalism School.
She also created and executive produced Underground Hair, a vérité docuseries shot in a Bronx salon where she had been a client for years before she brought a camera in. That series is the clearest statement of what she does: get people comfortable enough to be themselves on camera, then build something out of what actually happens.
Studio Box applies that to commercial work. Documentary instincts, broadcast standards, and AI-assisted production that brings the cost of both within reach of teams that could never have afforded either.
Tracy Thompson
“You can’t buy the thing that makes footage good. Either people relax and behave normally on camera, or they perform. And if they perform, no amount of editing will make it feel real.”
